Song for Sam op.117

This single movement piece is written for double string ensemble and is aimed at players of at least Grade 7 level, with the smaller ensemble comprising nine solo players – two each from violin 1, violin 2, viola and cello and one double bass. The piece is in a contemplative style, rather in the manner of much of Arvo Pärt’s music since the late 1970s, and requires good intonation and bow control throughout. The piece is ideally performed antiphonally. A set includes a score, 5 copies of each violin part, 3 of each viola and cello part and 2 copies of the double bass part as well as two copies of each of the nine solo parts. Total playing time ca. 4½ minutes.
